08 Dec Microsoft: No pornography and offensive language
As announced by golem.de , there are new terms of use for Microsoft ‘s cloud services, which are currently causing a stir. No more content may be uploaded that contains nudity, pornography or “offensive language” . Microsoft could also listen to Skype conversations. With new terms and conditions for its cloud services Skype, Xbox Live, Bing and Onedrive, Microsoft is securing the right to remove “inappropriate content” from users in the future. The new conditions presumably go back to the controversial US law Fosta ( previously Sesta , the Allow States and Victims to Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act of 2017), which is supposed to combat human trafficking and sexual exploitation. This may hold operators of digital services responsible for the content hosted there, which is why Google has already deleted porn from sex workers . Civil rights activist Jonathan Corbett was the first to write about the new conditions . It says that users must adhere to Microsoft’s Code of Conduct and, in extreme cases, will be blocked if they are violated. “Nudity, bestiality, pornography, offensive language, glorifying depictions of violence and criminal activities” are prohibited in the future. The rather unclear terms such as “glorifying graphic violence” or “offensive language” are not defined in more detail, which could lead to problems in practice.
