Berliner Stadtwerke now a creditPass customer

Stadtwerke Berlin is making a name for itself with environmentally friendly electricity offers, including the slogan: “Watts for the climate”. Since June 2017, the municipal utilities of the federal capital have also been customers of creditPass. The company has clear visions and goals: Berlin wants to be climate neutral by 2050. In order for this to be successful, the city must reduce its greenhouse gas emissions to such an extent that they do not have any additional climate-damaging effects. This is the case if the warming of the climate from the emissions is kept below the dangerous threshold of two degrees Celsius. To do this, Berlin must reduce its CO2 emissions by 85% compared to 1990 levels by 2050. By 2010, at least 27% had been achieved, so that CO2 emissions fell from around 30 million tons to 21 million tons in these 20 years. In 2050 it may only be 4.4 million tons. Berlin has already achieved a lot. This shows the comparison with other cities. While the German capital generated around 5.7 tonnes of CO2 per inhabitant in 2010, the national average for the same year was 9.7 tonnes of CO2. Berlin does not need to shy away from a comparison with other metropolises, for example New York caused 6.6 tons of CO2 per inhabitant in 2010. But for the goal of “climate neutrality”, Berlin must reduce its emissions to around 1.25 tons of CO2 per inhabitant. In order for this to succeed, capacities for generating renewable electricity must be expanded and energy used more efficiently and therefore more economically. In the long term, Berlin’s goal is to guarantee the power supply completely from decentrally generated renewable energies. The Berliner Stadtwerke help to achieve this goal. As the federal capital, Berlin has a special duty to take on a pioneering role nationally and internationally and to promote climate protection and the energy transition. The Berliner Stadtwerke will play a central role that is noticeable beyond Berlin. The creditPass team is very pleased to be able to work with this customer-oriented, innovative and technically excellent provider.
